Today, I read the article of AlexGao’s Blog about IRC.And when I finished it, AlexGao told me to try the IRC that he set up and advised me to use X-chat,the IRC client.But I am lazy to find the software and install it. With the idea flashing,I remembered the Opera can do it. So I want to share the method with you.

Attention: my screenshots is shown the Opera of chinese language,and you just

correspond the right position.That’s OK.

I use the Opera 9.51 to show you how to set up the IRC.

First you should open Opera, And click the “Tools->Mail and Chat Accounts”,a guide will come out.

And then there will be a choice for whether set up a account,choose “Yes”.

Next it will ask you what to set up, and choose the last one-IRC,and click “Next”.

Third, enter your real name and mail,and then click “Next”.

Next you will enter a nickname,and “Next”,but when you get into a IRC channel,if there is someone using your nickname, system will make you change it.

Next it is the important step.You can choose the network or entering one.Here,I enter “irc.oftc.net”(this network seem the IRC about *nix,so I think linuxers maybe like it.),and “Next”.By the way, if you’re chinese, you can find many IRCs from GG search engine or some BBS forum,such as deepin.org,linuxsir.org,and so on.

Then you should wait the all channels shown,and choose one or enter a special one to join in.

Here AlexGao told me to enter “#AlexGao.com”.so I do.

Then you can have a chat with the members in the channel.

And you’d better change the encoding  utf-8,or other will see the wrong codes.

Just watch the screenshots:

First you should move the mouse to the place where “irc.oftc.net” is, and right click.

Then click the red zone which I want you to click.

choose the “utf-8″ from the down-pull list.

Click the “Confirm”, and that’s OK.

If my nickname is TigTag，then I enter “/msg nickserv register HdeestP double.j@ynmail.com“，so with the password “Hdeestp”, TigTag is registered。

After registered,you should enter “/nickserv identify Hdeestp” to identify your nickname before you login in every time.

Frankly speaking, the IRC chat is better to learn from others than BBS in my opinion.
